Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in both hilly and plain regions.

Rainfall brings relief & disruptions

Over the past two days, intermittent showers have cooled temperatures, providing relief from the heat. However, the intense rainfall has also caused disruptions, with falling trees in Haridwar leading to power outages. In Raiwala, a high-voltage transmission line broke, affecting electricity supply to Meerut for several hours. In the mountainous regions, light to moderate rain has been recorded, while Kumaon districts have seen sporadic showers, except in Udham Singh Nagar, which remained relatively dry.

Heavy rain & landslide alert

According to the Meteorological Center Dehradun, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh on Friday. The IMD has also issued a landslide warning for Pithoragarh and Bageshwar, cautioning travelers about possible road blockages due to rockfalls. In addition, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are forecasted for several hilly districts, while light rain is expected in plains areas, including Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.

Temperature drop

The maximum temperature in Dehradun is expected to be 36°C, with a minimum of 23°C. The weather will remain unstable through May 31, with cloud cover, thunderstorms, and scattered showers continuing across the state. The IMD predicts that pre-monsoon showers will intensify in the coming days, affecting Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Nainital, and Pithoragarh.

Impact on Char Dham Yatra & tourism

The changing weather has also affected Chardham Yatra routes, with partial cloud cover and light showers recorded in pilgrimage areas. Pilgrims are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and prepare for fluctuating conditions.

Precautions & advisory

Authorities have urged residents and travelers to exercise caution, especially in mountainous areas, where landslides and road disruptions could occur due to heavy rainfall. The next few days will bring a mix of sunshine, cloud cover, and intermittent showers, keeping Uttarakhand’s weather dynamic and unpredictable.
