Dehradun: In a significant move, the Uttarakhand government has announced the inclusion of Operation Sindoor in the curriculum of madrasas across the state, ensuring students learn about India’s military response to terror threats.
The Chairman of the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board, Shamoon Qasmi, informed the media about this after meeting Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on Sunday. There are 451 madrasas in Uttarakhand, where around 50,000 students are receiving education.
Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to the courage and valour of our soldiers
On Sunday evening, Qasmi, along with some educationists, met Rajnath Singh and congratulated him on the success of Operation Sindoor. After the meeting, Qasmi stated that Operation Sindoor stands as a testament to the courage and valour of our soldiers, and every student must learn about it. “We will call a meeting of the syllabus committee soon to include this chapter,” he further added.
The initiative will impact 451 registered madrasas in Uttarakhand, where over 50,000 students will now study the military operation that unfolded in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.
The decision, spearheaded by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, aims to provide students with knowledge about India’s counterterrorism operations and national security efforts.
Operation Sindoor: India’s Military response to terrorism
India launched Operation Sindoor as a retaliatory strike against terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK. Between May 7 and May 10, the Indian Army executed nine strategic attacks, destroying terror infrastructure across the border. Seven of these strikes originated from locations south of the Pir Panjal range in Jammu and Kashmir, effectively crippling enemy targets, according to a senior army official.
Following India’s swift and precise military action, Pakistan attempted counterattacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. However, Indian forces successfully neutralized the threats, inflicting approximately 50 enemy casualties while ensuring minimal damage to Indian military assets.
On May 10, both nations reached an understanding on cessation of hostilities, although the Indian Army has confirmed that this agreement does not have an expiration date. The military remains on high alert, prepared for any further provocations.
Educational significance of Operation Sindoor
The Uttarakhand government’s decision to incorporate Operation Sindoor into madrasa studies reflects a broader effort to strengthen national consciousness among students. The inclusion of this chapter aims to provide a factual understanding of India’s defense strategies while fostering awareness about national security challenges.
Officials believe that educating students about India’s military operations will instill a sense of patriotism and strategic awareness, preparing them to engage in discussions on defense, security policies, and geopolitical developments.
Decision garnered mixed reactions
The move has garnered mixed reactions, with supporters emphasizing the need for informed and fact-based education on national security, while some critics argue that military operations should remain separate from academic curricula. However, state education officials maintain that this chapter will focus on history, defense strategy, and India’s global stance on counterterrorism.
