Uttarakhand DGP seeks cybercrime strategies, requests information from five states on existing systems

Dehradun: Uttarakhand police has now taken necessary steps to strengthen the cyber security system in the state following the recent incident of cyberattack on the State Data Centre. DGP Abhinav Kumar has sought information from his counterparts in five states about their infrastructure, number of trained personnel, functioning of cyber cells.

Following the cyberattack on the State Data Centre, Uttarakhand police have taken initiatives to face the challenges of cybercrime, besides strengthening the cyber security system in the state.

Uttarakhand DGP writes a letter to his counterparts of five states

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar wrote a letter to the DGPs of five states- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, seeking information about the steps being taken by these states concerned to put an effective check on the cybercrime. This is part of the initiatives taken by the Uttarakhand police to control cybercrime and manage the cybersecurity.

Seeks information about the number of cases registered under the IT Act, 2000

In the letter, Uttarakhand DGP has sought specific information from his counterparts in the five states. He has appealed to his counterparts in the five states to provide information about the cases registered under the Information Technology Act, 2000, besides the information about the cases of cybercrime registered under the IPC and BNS. Uttarakhand police aim to do comparative analysis of the cybercrime.

Details about infrastructure developed the five states to control cybercrime

The second information Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav sought from his counterparts in the five states is details about the infrastructure developed by the states concerned to control cybercrime. Uttarakhand wants information about the infrastructure such as cybercrime units at the police stations at the district as well as the state level, to control cybercrime, trained personnel appointed in such units and available technical equipment.

Protocols and arrangements adopted to deal with major cyber crisis

Uttarakhand police also sought information about the protocol and arrangements adopted to deal with any major cyber crisis such as attacks on critical infrastructure, data breaches and ransomware incidents. Uttarakhand police also want to know the details of the crisis management team and partnerships with private sector experts or national agencies.

Uttarakhand police to introduce changes in its system to deal with cybercrime

In a press release, the DGP Abhinav Kumar said Uttarakhand police has taken necessary steps to control the cybercrime and effective check on them. Uttarakhand police will introduce new changes, improve the system, and initiate reforms in the existing system to put an effective check on the cybercrime based on information to be provided by the five states concerned.
