Uttarakhand: Chopper flying to Kedarnath crashes, 6 dead

Kedarnath: At least 6 people died after a chopper flying to Kedarnath crashed between Gaurikund and Sonprayag. NDTV reported that the Aviation Helicopter was flying from Guptkashi to Kedarnath Dham and had pilgrims onboard.

Technical problem, weather led to crash

ANI reported that 7 people were onboard the chopper which crashed in a forest. Reports claimed that technical problems and the inclement weather conditions led to the crash.

Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site. This is the fifth accident since the Kedarnath Temple opened for pilgrims this season on May 2.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to social media platform, ‘X’ to pray for the pilgrims aboard the chopper. He wrote, “Very sad news has been received about a helicopter crash in Rudraprayag district. SDRF, local administration and other rescue teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safety of all the travelers.”
