Dehradun, Haridwar, and Udham Singh Nagar have recorded some of the highest temperatures, with heatwave effects spreading to select mountainous areas as well.

Heatwave persists, relief expected soon

Meteorologists predict that dry conditions and intense sunlight will continue until June 11, likely leading to further temperature hikes. In the last two days, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 39°C, nearly three degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 25.3°C, marking a four-degree rise over seasonal averages.

Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar also faced heatwave-like conditions, with dry winds and humidity intensifying the situation. Residents have been advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure, and monitoring vulnerable individuals such as elderly citizens and children.

Rain expected in select hill districts

While plains continue to battle high temperatures, the Meteorological Department forecasts light to moderate showers in certain hilly areas. Strong winds and lightning may accompany rainfall in Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag districts, offering localized relief from the blistering heat. In contrast, other districts will likely experience clear skies and dry weather until June 11. The anticipated arrival of the monsoon after June 10 is expected to bring significant relief across the state.

Monsoon arrival brings hope

With temperatures climbing steadily, Uttarakhand eagerly awaits the monsoon’s onset, which could cool the region and revive water sources strained by extreme heat. Weather experts remain optimistic that rainfall starting June 11 will ease conditions, particularly in humid and high-risk zones.

IMD have urged residents to remain cautious

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and other concerned authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as strong winds and thunderstorms may disrupt daily activities, especially in higher-altitude regions. As monsoon showers draw closer, Uttarakhand’s plains and hills alike look forward to much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.
