Uttarakhand BJP begins organizational polls post civic polls; new president by March

Dehradun: The Bhartiya Janata Party’s Uttarakhand unit is likely to get a new president by March. After the end of the Urban Local Bodies’ elections in the state, the BJP’s state unit has now started its process for the organizational polls.

The party may unanimously get elected its “Mandal” (zonal) and district presidents after holding proper consultation. This process is likely to be completed by February 28 and thus chances are that the party will take a decision on the name of its president for the state unit.

New face or the current president?

Within the party organization, the discussion is on if the current party president Mahendra Bhatt continues to lead the party. Sources do not rule the possibility of the selection of a new face for the post of party president.

New presidents of Mandals & districts by the February end

The BJP may get its Mandal presidents across the state by the end of February 20. Similarly, the names of the party’s new presidents of all the districts are likely to be announced by February 28. The party has appointed three observers for each assembly constituency. The state has 70 assembly seats.

Observers to start reaching assembly constituencies from February 15

The newly appointed observers will start reaching the constituencies allotted to them from February 15. They will hold consultations with local leaders and active workers to know their choices for the post of Mandal presidents. They may prepare a panel of three names and submit the same to the party organization. After receiving the panels from the observers, the party will announce the names with consensus.

Observers to submit their panels

Similarly, the observers are expected to submit their panel containing three names for the post of district president. The party may take a decision on the names by February 28. Before going to the assembly constituencies, allotted to them, the observers will attend a workshop to be held in Dehradun on February 9. The workshop will be attended by the district presidents, Zila Prabharies and other functionaries.
