US Secretary Rubio’s talks with S Jaishankar; Urges both side to have direct communication

New Delhi: Shortly after a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday regarding the escalating tensions between the two nations. Rubio urged both parties to de-escalate the conflict through direct communication.

In an official statement from the US Department of State on Saturday, it was noted that “Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Secretary Rubio emphasised the importance of both sides identifying methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to prevent misunderstandings. He further suggested that the US could facilitate productive discussions to avert future disputes.”
