Dehradun: To keep a vigilant eye on law & order and various arrangements in the city, Dehradun’s district magistrate and senior superintendent of police (SSP) roamed around the city on a bullet motorbike on Monday. During this ride, DM drove the vehicle while SSP was a pillion rider.

It was not the first time when both the officers took stock of the traffic system, encroachment, parking, beautification, drainage and the condition of intersections on the roads. They have been doing this in the past also.

Both have inspected the traffic arrangement and women safety measures

On Monday, Dehradun’s district magistrate Savin Bansal and senior superintendent of police (SSP)Ajay Singh reviewed the city’s arrangements, traveling from Ghanta Ghar to Prince Chowk via Rispana Bridge ISBT. They inspected the traffic system, encroachment, parking, beautification, drainage, and the condition of road intersections. Additionally, they explored the potential for constructing pink booths and pink toilets to enhance women’s safety and convenience.

Once again rode a bullet after September 15

Both the senior officers once again took to a bullet motorcycle, just like they did on September 15, to get a feel for the city’s pulse. This time, DM Bansal rode the motorcycle with SSP Singh riding pillion. On Monday, the convoy set off from Ghanta Ghar, passing through MKP Chowk and Araghar to reach Rispana Bridge. They then inspected Kargi Chowk, ISBT on Haridwar Bypass Road, Lalpul, Saharanpur Chowk, and Prince Chowk.

Saw the possibility to build more Pink

During this time, District Magistrate Savin Bansal discussed various arrangements with officials and sought improvement proposals. He noted the construction of a pink booth at CNI College Chowk and ongoing installation of over 15 high-capacity CCTV cameras in Paltan Bazaar. Considering women’s safety, he explored the possibility of pink booths at Gandhi Park, MKP Chowk, and Lalpul, and instructed the construction of a pink toilet at Lalpul police booth. The police were asked to prepare a proposal for approval soon.

Solution for waterlogging

The District Magistrate noted that waterlogging issues worsen during the rainy season at Rispana Bridge, Prince Chowk, and ISBT. To address this, he requested PWD and Highway officials to submit a proposal to resolve the problem before the next monsoon season.

ISBT Chowk will be widened, land will be acquired

During his inspection, District Magistrate Savin Bansal also noted that the width of ISBT Chowk is insufficient to handle the heavy vehicle traffic from all directions. He instructed PWD and Highway officials to prepare a proposal for land acquisition where necessary to widen the Chowk area. Previously, similar issues had been discussed, but no action was taken. Officials from the Highway Dehradun section emphasized the need to relocate shops on the service lane to ensure smooth traffic flow in the ISBT area, enabling the development of a bypass road.
