New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday distributed appointment letters to 19 kin of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims, marking a significant step in what she called a “long-overdue acknowledgment of justice.”

Speaking at the event, Gupta said, “Many families lost multiple members in the massacre. Previous governments did nothing. Your struggle for justice over the past 42 years has not gone unnoticed.”

She announced that a total of 125 riot-affected individuals would be given jobs, of which 19 have already joined their posts. Gupta also criticised earlier governments for ignoring other affected groups, such as Kashmiri migrants and families of those who died during the COVID-19 pandemic. “They received no support, but our government will change that,” she said. Additionally, she declared that the Delhi government will start offering pensions to those who fought against the Emergency.
