Dehradun: With the Uttarakhand government clearing a proposal for the purchase of 100 new buses of BS VI model, the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation is set to improve its services on the Delhi-Dehradun route. The implementation of Graded Response Action Plan VI in Delhi due to rising levels of pollution brought fresh challenges for the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. The old model buses of the Corporation were prohibited from entering Delhi.

The state government has not only approved a proposal for purchasing 100 new buses of BS VI model, but also asked the transport corporation to arrange 100 CNG buses on contract. This clearly means there will be availability of 200 new buses with the Corporation. It will help the Corporation to restore its normal services on Delhi-Dehradun route as usual. The Corporation will be able to provide its 504 roadways services on this route like the past.

Transport secretary met the CM Dhami and shared the problems faced by the Corporation

On Wednesday, chief secretary Radha Raturi had held a meeting with the officials of the transport department and asked them to look for the solution to the inconvenience caused to the common people due to the implementation of GRAP IV in Delhi. Subsequently, the transport secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence in Dehradun on Thursday to share the new situation the Corporation faces after the implementation of the GRAP IV in Delhi. He discussed the proposal regarding the purchase of 175 new buses.

Requirement of 200 new buses to restore normal roadways services on Delhi-Dehradun route

The transport department officials told the CM that the Corporation used to run its 504 roadways services in normal days on Delhi-Dehradun route. The old model buses are now prohibited from entering Delhi due to the pollution. The Corporation now has only 300 buses which meet the standard. The officers communicated to the CM Dhami about the problems faced by the passengers due to the shortage of 200 buses on Delhi-Dehradun route. The government approved the proposal for purchasing 100 new buses of BS VI model, besides making available 100 CNG buses on contract.
