Since 2014, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, several key Central Government institutions have been established in Telangana. The Centre has consistently prioritised infrastructure development, research promotion, and welfare-oriented policy implementation in the state. This progress is clearly reflected in the unwavering commitment— be it through pioneering research centres, to skill training hubs, and agricultural advancements, every step showcases the Centre’s commitment to empower Telangana and ensure inclusive growth.
1. Global Centre of Excellence on Millets – Hyderabad

To promote the importance of millets, the central government has signed MoUs with several countries and initiated efforts through the Ministry of Agriculture.

An international-level millet research, Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR) has been sanctioned by the Centre in Telangana.

Through IIMR, research on millets is already underway under ICAR through IIMR.

Now, the Ministry of Agriculture is set to establish a ‘Global Centre of Excellence on Millets’ at a cost of ₹250 crore.

The new global centre will play a key role in further strengthening these research activities.

Once this centre becomes fully operational, research, development, and infrastructure related to millets will progress rapidly.

In the upcoming Hyderabad centre, facilities like a Central Instrumentation Lab, International Hostel, Millets Museum, Research Farms, Training Rooms, and International Guest House will be established.

Additionally, modern research facilities such as Gene Editing Greenhouses, Speed Breeding Labs, and Phenomics Labs will be made available.

High-quality seeds for millet cultivation will be provided, especially to farmers in Telangana.

Along with IIMR, the newly established centre will offer regular training to farmers, support for marketing value-added products, and encouragement for startups.
2. Kavach Centre of Excellence – Secunderabad

Dedicated to developing India’s indigenous railway safety technology—Kavach.

The Research Design & Standards Organisation (RDSO) carries out procedural parts of development of Kavach such as granting approvals, controlling specifications etc. whereas the new Centre of Excellence acts as ‘Think Tank’ of the project

The centre was initially set up at a cost of ₹41.11 crore along with a ₹28.46-crore testing facility for the next generation 5G technology in association with IIT-Chennai

Now the Centre of Excellence for Kavach is being enhanced at the cost of Rs 274 Cr
-
Will focus on advanced R&D, engineer training, and institutional partnerships in railway signalling and safety.

Newer version and hand-holding for the roll-out of Kavach, has released the ‘Standard Uniform Braking Algorithm’ incorporating various special features to meet specific operating requirements of Indian Railways across various Original Equipment Manufacturers. Standard installation drawings of Kavach and various kinds of locomotives have been finalised

Formal collaborations established with MGIT (Hyderabad), MMM University (Gorakhpur), and MBM University (Jodhpur).
3. National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) – Hyderabad

Part of the Centre’s ₹60,000 crore plan to upgrade ITIs under Viksit Bharat

National Scheme for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Upgradation and Setting up of five (5) National Centres of Excellence (NCOE) for Skilling will be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme

This will be done by upgrading infrastructure for improved Training of Trainers (ToT) in the five National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs)

Additionally, through these five modern training hubs being developed across India pre-service and in-service training will be provided to 50,000 trainers

₹200 crores has been earmarked for the setting up of Five National Centres of Excellence for Skilling

Will focus on ‘Training for Trainers’, modern infrastructure, and industry-aligned skill development in vocational education.
