‘They are cleverer than govt’: UP minister’s bizarre claim amid wolf attacks in state

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government is worried about wolf attacks in several districts, including Bahraich. However, state minister Baby Rani Maurya has provided a bizarre explanation for why it is challenging to quickly address the issue. While speaking to reporters in Jhansi about the wolf attacks, Maurya said that capturing the wolves is difficult because the animals are “more clever than the government.”

“Several teams are actively searching for the wolves, and we will eventually find them. However, it’s taking some time because the wolves are more clever than the government. We are addressing the issue, and the wolves will be caught soon,” she said, noting that the state forest minister is personally overseeing the search efforts.

8-year-old injured in wolf attack

An 8-year-old boy was injured in a wolf attack when playing outside his home in Mahsi tehsil, Bahraich, today his family said. The boy suffered facial injuries and has been hospitalised, a government doctor said. In the last two months, Bahraich district has seen 8 deaths, including seven children and nearly three dozen others injured in a series of wolf attacks, as per official records, NDTV reported.

Authorities under pressure

The latest incident occurred on Thursday evening in Golwa village of Mahsi tehsil, a rural area near the city but it was different from previous attack locations. The boy’s mother recounted that he was playing near their house when a wolf knocked him down and injured him. The child’s screams alerted the family, who rushed out, causing the wolf to flee.

Dr Sanjay Khatri, the principal of the local medical college, said that the boy was attacked from behind. He was admitted to the medical college and treated for superficial injuries on his left cheek and neck, receiving two stitches. Dr Khatri confirmed that the child is out of danger. Since March, wolves have been attacking both children and adults in the Mahsi tehsil area of Bahraich, with attacks increasing from July 17 during the rainy season.
