Chennai: Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin while attending a certificate distribution event at the Namakkal Kavingnar Hall in Chief Secretariat, Chennai, where government employees embarrassingly sang the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, the state anthem, with errors.

During the event, three civil servants sang the anthem at the beginning, but mistakenly rendered “Kandamithil” as “Kandamathil” and “Pugazhmanakkam” as “Thigalmanakkam”. The microphone’s poor sound quality made some lines, including “Dravidha Naal Thirunadum”, inaudible.

Udhayanidhi Stalin should apologise to the people of TN for singing Tamil Thai Vazhthu with plenty of errors.😡

Udhayanidhi Stalin, noticing the mistakes, instructed Special Program Implementation Department Secretary Thares Ahmed to lead the singing again without errors at the end of the program. However, the employees repeated the same mistakes, singing “Kandamithil” incorrectly and “Pugazhmanakkam” as “Thigalmanakkam”.

The Deputy Chief Minister later addressed the press, downplaying the incident, attributing the errors to technical glitches with the microphone. He emphasized that the Tamil Thai Vazhthu was not sung intentionally incorrectly. Udhayanidhi Stalin also highlighted the event’s purpose, where 19 out of 30 participants received certificates for completing the Tamil Nadu Government’s research program training, valued at 6.5 crore per annum, in collaboration with Bharathidasan College of Management.

This two-year training program aims to enhance government employees’ skills. Udhayanidhi Stalin encouraged the participants and urged the media not to sensationalize the anthem singing incident unnecessarily. The event concluded with the national anthem being sung.
