Tirunelveli: A chilling incident of caste-based violence has rocked Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, after a 17-year-old Scheduled Caste boy was brutally attacked by a gang belonging to a dominant caste in Melappattam village.

The attack unfolded when the boy questioned the gang members for reckless driving near his house. Enraged, the gang broke into his home and assaulted him with a machete and beer bottle, leaving him severely injured.

Swift intervention by neighbors saved the boy, who was rushed to Tirunelveli Government Hospital for treatment. Palayamkottai Taluk Police promptly arrested three suspects – Muthukumar, Lakshmanan, and Thanga Isakki – and registered cases under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, Juvenile Justice Act, and attempt to murder.

Investigations are ongoing to determine if the attack was motivated by caste. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting the persistent issue of caste-based violence in India. Authorities are working to ensure justice for the victim and prevent further incidents.

The police are searching for additional suspects and urge anyone with information to come forward. The community remains shaken, demanding stringent action against the perpetrators.
