Strike in Lucknow courts continue after police violence against Ghaziabad lawyers

Lucknow: Lawyers in Lucknow court continued their strike protesting the lathicharge on Ghaziabad lawyers following an argument with a district judge.

On Tuesday, members of the Lucknow Central Bar Association staged a protest and burned effigy of the Ghaziabad District Judge at the Health Bhavan intersection. The protesting lawyers also raised slogans in support of their three demands.

Work suspended in Lucknow district courts

All the district courts in Lucknow remain closed though the resumed in the Lucknow bench of the High Court on Tuesday. The office bearers of the Central Bar Association and Lucknow Bar Association also held a meet on the court premises and condemned ‘police atrocities’ against lawyers in Ghaziabad.

Ramesh Prasad Tiwari, president of the Lucknow Bar Association, said the meeting decided to support any resolution passed by the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council regarding the Ghaziabad incident. The lawyers said all work in Lucknow courts will remain suspended.

Lawyers and police clash on October 29

On October 29, a clash broke out between a lawyer and Ghaziabad district judge after following arguments over a bail hearing. Amid the chaos, the judge called PAC and other police to control the protesting lawyers.

The clash took place after an advocate Nahar Singh and other lawyers reportedly indulged in an argument with the judge. Later, police arrived at the spot and used force to disperse the lawyers. Some of the lawyers were injured in the lathicharge by the police.
