
Maharashtra: Six people were killed and one injured in a horrific accident in Beed district of Maharashtra on Monday evening. This accident took place on the Dhule-Solapur National Highway on the Gadhi bridge near Gevrai.
According to police sources, the SUV carrying seven individuals rammed into road divider around 7 PM, resulting in a minor collision. “There were no injuries in this first accident. The passengers exited the vehicle to inspect the damage when they were hit by a speeding truck,” said Gevrai Police Inspector Ravindra Jadhav.
Six people were killed on the spot, while one person sustained multiple injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Balu Aatkare, Manoj Karande, Krishna Jadhav, Deepak Saroya, Bhagwat Paralkar, Sachin Nanavare. “All of them belong to same village and were returning from a family event,” said a relative of one of the victims, struggling to hold back tears. “They survived one accident, only to be taken away from us by another one. It’s unbearable,” the relative added.
Truck driver on the run
The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police have launched a manhunt and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby spots. “We are investigating the incident and filed a case under various BNS sections related to rash and negligent driving. Efforts are on to trace the absconding driver,” said Inspector Jadhav.
Victims were returning from a family gathering
The accident has sent shockwaves across Beed. Locals gathered near the accident site late into the night and demanding safety measures against rash driving.
“This is not just an accident. It’s a wake-up call for highway management and driver accountability,” said Sunil Patil, a local social activist. “That stretch has seen multiple fatal accidents due to poor visibility and lack of speed regulation.”
