‘Since 2002, Rahul Gandhi, Congress trying to tarnish PM Modi’s image’: BJP on Adani indictment controversy

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he raised questions over the Narendra Modi government regarding the indictment of industrialist Gautam Adani on bribery charges by US authorities.

During a press conference, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha called for the arrest of Adani. He said ,“We will raise this issue (in Parliament). It is my responsibility as LoP to raise this issue. The PM is 100% shielding this man (Adani) and this man supports BJP entirely. We will reiterate the demand for a JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee).”

Reacting to Gandhi’s comments, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said “law will take its own course”. Patra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI: “Since 2002, Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and the Congress have been trying to tarnish Modi’s image, but they have not succeeded and the prime minister received the highest civilian award in a foreign country on a day the opposition party was attacking him.”

BJP points at Adani Group’s investments in states ruled by Congress and allies

At a press conference, Patra pointed out the investments of Adani Group in states ruled by Congress and allies. “The Adani Group made an investment of Rs 25k crore and Rs 65k crore in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, when Bhupesh Baghel and Ashok Gehlot were the CMs there, respectively. The group invested Rs 45k crore in the DMK-ruled Tamil Nadu and recently gave Rs 100 crore donation to Telangana CM Revanth Reddy for a skill development foundation,” Patra pointed out.

He questioned, “If Adani is “corrupt”, then why are the Congress governments seeking investment from his company?” Continuing his criticism of Rahul Gandhi, Patra referred to the Congress leader’s allegations regarding the Rafale deal.

Patra added that yet again, he (Rahul Gandhi) is at it.  He said that Rahul Gandhi had come up with the Rafale issue in 2019, similarly. “He had made claims of a big revelation. During the Covid pandemic, he used conduct press conference in similar way over vaccine. However, he had to seek apology before the Supreme Court afterwards,” Patra added.

The BJP leader said, “Rahul Gandhi, in his PC (Press Conference), said that the Congress party is doing the work of the judiciary too. The mother-son duo is out on bail and they are doing the work of judiciary! Half of them are out on bail and they are doing the work of judiciary!”.
