Acknowledging the weight of her new role, Gupta called it a “huge responsibility” and vowed to serve with dedication. “I thank PM Modi and BJP high command for having faith in me… I will fulfil my responsibility with utmost honesty… My first priority is to complete all the commitments our party has made, and the second priority is that all our 48 MLAs will work as a team Modi. I never thought I would be a CM of Delhi,” she added.

Taking aim at the previous administration, Gupta promised to ensure that the former government is held accountable. “The previous corrupt government would have to give the account of each rupee belonging to the people,” she said.

Row over Sheesh Mahal

The bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road, which spans over 40,000 square yards, became a political controversy due to its luxurious renovations. Arvind Kejriwal, who lived there from 2015 to October 2024, faced criticism from the BJP for alleged misuse of funds. He vacated the property after resigning as Chief Minister last year.

A report by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) released in October 2024 revealed details of costly renovations and high-end appliances installed in the bungalow. Last week, the Centre ordered a detailed probe into alleged violations of building norms during its reconstruction.
