Ahmedabad: Gujarat businessman Savjibhai Dhanjibhai Dholakia is often in the news for all the good reasons. Dholakia, who is engaged in the business of diamonds, is popular for giving expensive gifts like houses and cars to his company’s employees on Diwali. In the past, the Surat-based businessman gave cars, flats, jewellery sets, Fixed Deposits and insurance policies to his workers as Diwali bonus.

To everyone’s surprise, Dholakia has also given luxury cars like Mercedes to some of his employees. Savjibhai believes that gifting the first car to an employee is a big achievement in his life. Dholakia is the chairman of Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd, a diamond manufacturing and export company. He built the firm as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of polished diamonds.

Savjibhai Dholakia net worth, company, family

Savjibhai Dholakia was born in Dudhala, in Gujarat. He was born to a poor farmer family and had no access to special education or any experience of a big city. However, the lack of money and education did not deter this man’s passion to do something big and create his own identity. With his hard work, he earned the title of ‘Diamond King’ and owns a business empire of around Rs 12,000 crore.

In 1977, Savjibhai Dholakia went to Surat with Rs 12 in his pocket rupees. Initially, he stayed at his uncle’s place in Surat and saw his future in diamonds and decided to make it his life. His uncle got him a job in a diamond factory where he earned Rs Dholakia used to save Rs 39.

Gradually he learned the skills of diamond polishing and became an expert in the workmanship from a friend. Thereafter, he worked very hard for about 10 years to master his skills. In 1984, Savjibhai, along with his brothers Himmat and Tulsi, opened a company named ‘Hari Krishna Exports’. The factory where Dholakia once worked had now become his own entity. Today his company not only engages in the business of diamonds but has also ventured in the field of textile. More than 6,000 employees work in his company.

Savjibhai, is a big businessman today, but he has not forgotten his roots and the worth of money. He sent his foreign educated son and grandson to work far away from their city to live a normal life. In 2017, he gave Rs 500 to his son Hitarth to stay in Hyderabad. He also sent his grandson Rubin to Chennai with Rs 6000 to teach him the lesson of life’s difficulties. Both of them asked to hide their identities. Savjibhai believes that the real lessons of life come from life’s experience.
