So far, 27 people have been arrested, including some minor boys. Among those arrested are three women, who face charges of pelting stones and inciting violence against the police force. The police have registered multiple FIRs in connection with the violence.

Multiple FIRs registered

Initially, the police registered two separate FIRs. One of the FIRs includes the names of prominent political figures including Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Warq and the son of Sambhal MLA Iqbal Mahmood, Suhail Iqbal. Following these developments, two more FIRs were filed based on the complaints of the families of four young men who were tragically killed during the violence.

In addition to these FIRs, the police have registered a separate FIR that contains detailed information about the incidents that unfolded during the unrest, providing a comprehensive record of the violence.

Accused had applied green lotion around their eyes

Three of the accused arrested during the investigation were found to have applied a green lotion around their eyes. Upon questioning, the arrested individuals revealed that the lotion was used to protect their eyes from the effects of tear gas. They explained that by applying the green lotion, the harsh effects of the tear gas on their eyes were reduced, allowing them to continue participating in the violence without being affected by the police’s crowd control measures.

Sambhal police have been conducting raids across various locations in the area, with the aim of capturing the remaining people involved in the violence.

What is the whole matter?

A survey was being conducted at Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal on Sunday on the orders of the court. Protesters opposing the survey clashed with the police, resulting in the deaths of three people. A total of 20 people, including Deputy District Magistrate Ramesh Chandra, were injured in the violence, which involved firing and stone-pelting. Due to the tension following the violence, internet services were shut down in Sambhal tehsil.

On Sunday, the survey team returned to continue the survey of the mosque. A petition has been filed in the local court, claiming that the site where shahi Jama Masjid is located was previously occupied by Harihar temple.
