Rolls Royce has made a one off Phantom which took three years to build and it features a real gold bar inside. James Bond Goldfinger was released in 1964 and this marks the 60 years of the iconic movie. We recently saw the Aston Martin revealing a Goldfinger edition of the DB12 which was a similar idea and commemorated 60 years of the iconic movie.
While many remember the Aston Martin DB5 which featured in the movie, there was also a 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom III and Rolls Royce has drawn their inspiration from that very car shown in the movie and named this edition the Rolls Royce Phantom Goldfinger.
There are plenty of cool details. The dual tone exterior paint and dual-tone alloy wheels may not be to everyone’s taste but it is the same colour to the original car in the movie. There are plenty of gold details on the vehicle. The Spirit of Ecstacy is plated in gold and so are many of its trim but the actually interesting parts are all in the interior of the vehicle.
The interior is filled up with little details of gold. The AC vents are plated in gold and so are the speakers. There is gold trim on both the front and rear consoles, the trunk has a gold plated gold club, and the VIN plate is also plated in 24-carat gold. Then there is the dash inlay which alone took around a year to complete. It has a contour map of Furka pass in Switzerland which was one of the more iconic location of the movie. The headliner features the night sky over Furka pass on the day of July 11, 1964 which was the last day of filming in Switzerland. At the rear, the tables get the map of Fort Knox and there is a “007” logo projected from the trunk as well.
The biggest thing however is that Rolls Royce has put a real gold bar in the centre console of the car which is shaped like the Phantom Speedform. We cannot put a price on that gold bar as it is both invaluable and custom made. The details don’t end there. The Phantom Goldfinger edition features the “AU1” number plate which was procured specially for this car signifying Gold’s symbol on the periodic table.
The Goldfinger Phantom is a just a one-of-one and it has all been done for a very special customer in England. This definitely shows the lengths that Rolls Royce would go to customize your car and that you can do pretty much anything if you have the vision and the money.
