CBI is conducting investigation into financial irregularities on direction of High Court

The CBI is conducting the alleged financial irregularities case on the direction of the Calcutta High Court, which transferred the probe into the alleged financial irregularities from the West Bengal government-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI on a petition by a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had moved the High Court seeking a probe into the alleged financial misconduct at the hospital during the tenure of Ghosh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor inside the seminar room of the institute on August 9 sparked nationwide protests.

High Court earlier transferred rape, murder of woman doctor from Kolkata Police to CBI

The High Court earlier transferred the probe into the rape and murder of the woman doctor from the Kolkata Police to the CBI on a bunch of pleas seeking a court-monitored investigation into the incident as well as an investigation into the conduct of the hospital authorities, including the then RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Ghosh’s role, and other officials by a special team of investigating officers.

The Supreme Court, which has taken a suo motu cognisance of the rape and murder of woman doctor, is currently seized of the matter and while hearing the matter on Monday, the top court sought a fresh status report from the CBI on the investigation into the case.
