Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which recently filed its chargesheet against prime accused Sanjay Roy in the rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, collected CCTV footages of different areas of the Kolkata with the help of traffic police to verify Roy’s movements prior to his entry at the hospital in the early hours of August 9.
The verification of the said CCTV footages during the daytime of August 8 and prior to his entry in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, along with various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports, helped CBI identify and link Roy to the rape and murder of the trainee woman doctor at the hospital on August 9.
“To verify the movements of accused Roy prior to his entry in RG Kar at 3:20 on 09.08.2024, CCTV footages of different areas were collected from traffic police, Lalbazar for the purpose of identification of accused Roy in the said footages. In this regard, memorandum of identification has been prepared and his movements were ascertained,” the CBI said in its chargesheet filed before the Kolkata court.
Roy reached hospital in the afternoon on August 8 with another civic volunteer
As per the chargesheet filed by the CBI, Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police and stayed at Barrack of fourth battalion of Kolkata Armed Police at Salt Lake, left from his barrack along with another civic volunteer in the afternoon on a motorcycle, which was registered in the name of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, and reached the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for assisting in the treatment of police family members admitted in the hospital.
Roy, other civic volunteer again came and left hospital in night and consumed liquor and food and visited a Red Light area
Later, they left the hospital and reached a bank at Sobha Bazar for depositing money in the bank account of a police officer. However, the money could not be deposited, as the bank was closed. Thereafter, they bought and consumed liquor. Roy again came back to the hospital and the other civic volunteer left for the barrack. The other civic volunteer again reached the hospital at around 22:45 in the night on the request of Roy and both left the hospital and consumed liquor and food and visited Chetla Red Light area. Both went inside a house and purchased a beer.

While the other civic volunteer went inside a room with a sex worker, Roy only drank beer and did not have sex there. They then freturned back to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital at around 3:20 AM on the intervening night of August 8 and August 9.
Roy reached seminar room at 4:03 and committed rape and murder of woman doctor
After reaching the hospital, while the other civic volunteer left for his barrack, Roy went to the first floor of the Trauma Centre building to ascertain about the scheduled operation of one Subbo Dey. He, however, could not see anyone from the family of Subbo Dey on the first floor of the Trauma Centre building. Then, Roy went to the fourth floor of the Emergency Building. Thereafter, he reached the third floor of the Emergency Building at 4:03 and entered the seminar room where the victim trainee woman doctor was sleeping alone. Roy committed the crime of rape and murder of the victim woman doctor and left the third floor at 4:32AM.
