Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet recently in a city court against Sanjay Roy, prime accused in the rape and murder case of woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
The CBI has not mentioned the charge of gang rape in the chargesheet, indicating that Roy alone committed the crime on August 9.

The CBI, in its chargesheet filed before the court against Roy, has relied on various oral and documentary evidence and forensic and scientific reports to establish that accused Roy was the perpetrator of rape and murder of the trainee woman doctor at the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
Supreme Court took a suo motu cognisance of the incident
Roy was working as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police and he was arrested the following day by the Kolkata Police for allegedly committing the crime. The Kolkata Police was earlier investigating the case, however, the investigation was later transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court. The Supreme Court also took a suo motu cognisance of the incident and is currently seized of the matter.
CBI has urged the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet
The CBI, while urging the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Roy, has said that during the investigation conducted so far, involvement of Roy has been clearly established in the commission of offences punishable under relevant sections of the BNS.
Here are the key evidence in CBI chargesheet linking Roy to the alleged crime –
1. Roy’s presence in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and also at the third floor of emergency building where scene of crime lies during the intervening night of August 8 and 9 is proved by the CCTV footage.
2. Roy’s presence in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospitalduring the intervening night of August 8 and 9 is proved by way of location of his mobile phone as per the call details record (CDR).
3. Presence of Roy’s DNA detected from dead body of the victim woman doctor during autopsy.
4. Presence of blood stains of the victim woman doctor on Roy’s jeans pant and foot wears recovered by the Kolkata Police on August 12 in pursuance of his disclosure statement.
5. The short hair found from the scene of crime matching with Roy.
6. Pairing of one Bluetooth earphone found from the scene of crime with the seized mobile of Roy. It is worth mentioning that Roy while seen moving towards the scene of crime on intervening night of August 8 and 9 was was wearing one Bluetooth earphone neckband but at the time of returning from the scene of crime towards lift, the said earphone on his neck was missing.
7. Pairing of one Bluetooth earphone found from the scene of crime with the seized mobile phone of Roy.
8. As per the MLC report of Roy, the injuries found on his body occurred at any time between 24 hours and 48 hours prior to the time of examination (August 10), i.e., the injury can be caused at any time between 12:00 hours of August 8 and 12:00 hours of August 9, during which the rape and murder of the victim woman doctor was committed.
9. The injuries found on the body of Roy are blunt force injuries consistent with the marks of resistance/struggle by the victim.
10. As per the MLC report of Roy, there is nothing to suggest that he was incapable of performing sexual intercourse at the time of his examination.
