DCP Zone-9 Dixit Gedam confirmed that the accused broke into the premises with the intent to commit theft. The suspect, of Bangladeshi origin, lacked valid Indian identification documents. Investigations revealed that the accused had been living in India for years under Hindu aliases such as Vijay Das and Bijoy Das, in addition to the name Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad.

Ram Kadam expresses his concerns

Speaking to the media in Mumbai on Sunday, Ram Kadam expressed his concerns about the incident. While commending the police for swiftly apprehending the accused, Kadam highlighted the need for better security measures. He pointed out that many security guards in Mumbai work excessively long shifts, often up to 24 hours, leading to vulnerabilities in security systems. Kadam urged the government to ensure fair salaries and compliance with labour laws to improve the situation.

Regarding the broader issue of illegal immigration, Kadam asserted that the Maharashtra government must take proactive measures to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He emphasised that those residing unlawfully in India should face strict penalties before being sent back to their country of origin.

Kirit Somaiya calls attacker illegal Bangladeshi immigrant

BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya also weighed in on the matter, describing the attacker as an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant who had been residing in Thane. Somaiya criticised the growing presence of illegal immigrants in Maharashtra and demanded immediate action to curb their activities. He announced plans to visit the Thane camp where the suspect had been living.

Somaiya urged the Maharashtra Police to identify and deport Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants, claiming their presence disrupts the state’s peace and security. “The person who attacked Saif Ali Khan, Mohammad Shehzad, is a Bangladeshi and was residing in Thane. Mumbai Police has arrested him, and I thank them. I also request Maharashtra Police to identify and deport the Bangladeshi and Rohingya individuals who have infiltrated Maharashtra and are spreading unrest, by catching them one by one and sending them back to Bangladesh,” Somaiya said.
