Real Madrid vs Valencia postponed following flash floods in Valencia region

Real Madrid star ruled out of El Clasico with Barcelona

New Delhi: The recent devastating flash floods in Spain have led to the postponement of Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga match against Valencia. Torrential rain in the Valencia region caused extreme damage, with the town of Chiva alone experiencing over a year’s worth of rainfall in just eight hours. Tragically, the floods have claimed the lives of at least 95 people, with many more still missing as rescue efforts continue.

In response to the disaster, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) agreed to a request from La Liga and Liga F, Spain’s women’s top flight, to push back all professional matches in the Valencia area.

The decision, impacting both men’s and women’s football, includes postponements for games involving Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, and several second-division fixtures, such as Castellon versus RC Ferrol, CD Eldense against SD Huesca, and Malaga’s trip to Levante.

Meanwhile, Copa del Rey ties scheduled earlier in the week were also affected. Valencia’s game against sixth-tier Parla Escuela was among those postponed and is now rescheduled for early November. Similarly, Real Sociedad, Osasuna, and other top-flight clubs have seen their matches with lower-tier teams moved to a later date.

As a mark of respect for the victims and the affected communities, a minute’s silence will be observed at the matches that do go ahead this weekend. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and other Spanish clubs have extended their condolences to the victims’ families and have shown support for the flood-stricken areas.

The widespread disruption highlights the scale of this natural disaster, and the RFEF’s priority remains the safety of players, fans, and staff. This latest suspension in Spanish football follows a series of postponements that began with midweek Copa del Rey games and continues into the weekend as the nation deals with the aftermath of one of its worst floods in recent history.
