Railways impose temporary platform ticket ban at major stations for crowd control

Mumbai: Central Railway has implemented platform ticket restrictions at key stations, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Kurla LTT, Thane, Kalyan, Pune, and Nagpur. Similarly, Western Railway has announced that platform ticket sales will be restricted until November 8 at Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra Terminus, Borivali, Vasai Road, Vapi, Valsad, Udhna, and Surat stations.

An official said, “The restriction is aimed at reducing crowding and facilitating smoother movement during the Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations.” However, seniors and individuals with medical needs are exempt from these restrictions. To accommodate the high passenger demand during this festive season, Central Railway will operate two unreserved special trains between CSMT and Gorakhpur. This brings the total number of special services for Diwali and Chhath to 583.

Special Diwali trains

The first special train (01019) is scheduled to depart from CSMT Mumbai at 2:30 pm on October 28, arriving in Gorakhpur by 11 pm the following day. The return journey (01020) will leave Gorakhpur at 12:45 am on October 30, with an expected arrival at CSMT at 10:35 am the next day, making stops at major stations along the route.
