New Delhi: At a public rally at Hauz Qazi, Congress leaders launched a scathing attack on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of misleading people and failing to fulfill their promises.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge addressed various issues, including corruption, development, and the state of democracy in the country.
Rahul Gandhi slams Kejriwal on Yamuna
Rahul Gandhi criticized Arvind Kejriwal, saying he had failed to deliver on his promises, especially regarding the cleaning of the Yamuna River. He mocked Kejriwal’s past statement about taking a dip in the river and challenged him to drink its water.

“Arvind Kejriwal said that he will bring a new political system, will finish corruption… He also promised that he would clean the Yamuna water within five years, and would take a dip in it, but it is still dirty… I would ask him to drink it, we will meet in the hospital after that.”
He also took a dig at Kejriwal’s leadership team, alleging that it lacked representation from Dalits, OBCs, and Muslims.
“In ‘team Kejriwal’ (poster) there are nine people… no one from the Dalit, OBC, or Muslim community is there… They make their team, and when there is a riot anywhere, they disappear. It was Rahul Gandhi who came after the Delhi Riots.”
Highlighting the issue of unemployment, Rahul Gandhi shared an anecdote about a young civil engineer who had to work as a porter due to a lack of job opportunities.
“Some time ago, I met a young man at the railway station. I asked him what he did and how far he had studied. He told me that he had done civil engineering but did not get a job, so he is working as a porter. There are lakhs of such youth in India, who are working as laborers after getting a good education. On one hand, crores of rupees are being spent on the weddings of billionaires in the country, while on the other hand, there is inflation, unemployment, misery, and pain.”
Priyanka Gandhi calls PM Modi and Arvind Kejriwal ‘cowards’
Priyanka Gandhi compared Kejriwal’s governance to that of Indira Gandhi, emphasizing Congress’ legacy of strong leadership. “I am the granddaughter of Indira ji, she divided Pakistan into two parts. But I laugh at the cowardice of these people. These people are not able to take the small responsibility of building roads and hospitals.”
She accused Kejriwal of misusing public funds to build a lavish residence. “Nehru ji had built AIIMS, where these people go for treatment even today. Kejriwal built a Sheesh Mahal worth crores of rupees using public money. Kejriwal did not build this Sheesh Mahal using his own money.”
Priyanka Gandhi also targeted both Kejriwal and Modi for spending large amounts on publicity campaigns. “Kejriwal and Narendra Modi spend crores of rupees on publicity to brighten their image. Whose money is this, after all? This is public money, which should have been spent on your children and your future, so wake up and be wise.”

She urged people to protect the Constitution, emphasizing that it ensures their rights and freedoms. “People of every religion and every class fought together for the country’s independence. Our Constitution was made by people of all classes together. It protects you and you have rights in it. There is equality on every page of the Constitution. It has written the right under which you will choose your government on the 5th. Therefore, protect the Constitution, because your safety lies in its protection.”
Mallikarjun Kharge accuses Kejriwal of defaming Congress
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused Kejriwal of spreading lies about the Congress party. “Kejriwal tried to defame Congress by telling lies. Whereas whatever Delhi got, it got during the time of Congress Party and Sheila Dikshit ji.”
He credited Congress government for developing Delhi’s infrastructure and alleged that Kejriwal had done little since taking office.
“What changes did Kejriwal make in Delhi? The Congress party did the work of beautifying Delhi. Roads, big bridges, playgrounds were built here, and many development works were done during the time of Sheila Dikshit ji. Kejriwal ji came in a small car and sat in the Sheesh Mahal. Now many luxury cars follow him.”

Kharge also drew a comparison between Modi and Kejriwal, calling both leaders deceptive. “Similarly, Narendra Modi also used to say that – I am a tea seller. Both of them lie. Both of them are the leaders of liars.”
He also accused BJP and RSS of disregarding India’s independence day. “People of BJP-RSS do not consider 15 August 1947 as Independence Day. Whereas the truth is that thousands of people of the country fought for independence under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru ji, and all the great leaders of Congress, made sacrifices… only then the country got independence.”
Kharge credited Jawaharlal Nehru and BR Ambedkar for laying the foundation of modern India and ensuring constitutional rights. “After independence, Jawaharlal Nehru did a lot of development work in the country, including IIT, Polytechnic, Industry, Railway, and Airport. Baba Saheb gave the Constitution to the country, through which our country is running and through this Constitution you people have got the freedom to speak and write.”
