New Delhi: In good news for those living in Prayagraj, the Indian Railways is looking to construct a new rail bridge just near the old railway-cum road bridge over Yamuna bridge connecting the holy city with Naini. The construction is expected to be completed by 2031 when the city will host the Kumbh Mela.
Speaking to ‘The Times of India’, Amit Kumar Singh, PRO, NCR said that the Indian Railways have approved the construction of the bridge in Parayagraj. He added that an agency has been hired which has started working on the same. The selected agency has started Geotechnical Investigation (GTI), to find out whether the foundation of the bridge should be pile or well type.
The govt will also decide on the old bridge
Further talking to the paper, Singh added that while there will be a single line bridge in the beginning, there will soon be provision for another line whenever required. Once this bridge becomes operational, the government will decide on the current bridge over the river, he added further, while speaking to ‘The Times of India’
The current bridge was built at the site way back in 1865. It was built for the lifespan of 100 years. The PRO further added that the experts are also looking at documents related to the current bridge. He added that while the technology has vastly changed when the bridge was last constructed the information could be helpful if experts find something.
