Kolkata: The Malad Police in Mumbai has arrested a clever thief who used to disguise himself as a woman to escape from the police and used to use the railway tracks to avoid CCTV cameras. The police has seized a gold melting machine, 36 tolas of gold and silver jewelry, women’s clothes and cash from the thief. Police investigation revealed that the accused is the owner of many bungalows and flats.
He had been committing thefts for a long time but was difficult to catch. The police has arrested ‘Shehzade Chor’ as he is infamously known after a lot of hard work and further investigation is on. The accused has been seen in the CCTV footage wearing a woman’s dress and stealing. The thief is sometimes seen wearing gloves in his hand, sometimes wearing half pants and sometimes covering his face with a scarf while going to steal.
According to Malad Division ACP Hemant Sawant, the accused Ranjeet Kumar Upendra alias Munna (44) is a resident of Babuganj in Bihar and has been arrested from Malad Malvani area. To escape from the police, he used to commit theft by wearing a woman’s dress and sometimes he used to go to steal by posing as a beggar on the railway track, according to senior Malad police officer Vijay Panhale.
Property worth around Rs 57 lakh has been seized from him and cash worth Rs 16 lakh in the bank has been frozen. The police has also confiscated jewelry and goods worth Rs 41 lakh. Till now, eight cases have been registered against this shrewd. The team of Malad Police Station’s investigating officers comprising of Tushar Sukhadeve, Santosh Satwase, Amit Gawand, Avinash Jadhav, Havildar Mahesh Doifode have investigated over 150 CCTV cameras of several locations including railway tracks. Further probe is going on in this matter.
