‘People’s rights, wealth snatched’: Rahul Gandhi pitches for restoration of J&K statehood

Srinagar: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack at the BJP and RSS accusing them of spreading hatred across the country. “BJP’s job is to spread hatred and Congress’ job is to spread love. They break, we unite,” Gandhi said at a public rally in Ramban district, as he kickstarted the Congress’ campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls.

“BJP, RSS people are spreading hatred, violence and fear. This fight is between two ideologies. On one side there is hatred, violence, fear and on the other hand there is love and respect. We walked from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, 4,000 km, during which we gave the slogan – ‘mohabbat ki dukaan’, they break, we join,” he said at the rally.

The former Congress chief further said that hatred cannot be negated by hatred and that it can only be defeated by love.

Rahul Gandhi pitches for restoration of statehood in J&K

Hitting out at the BJP-led Centre over the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, Gandhi said that the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been snatched. He also said the Congress would pull out all stops to restore statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.

“For the first time in the history of India, a state has been made a Union Territory. People’s rights were snatched. This has never been done before. Our first priority is to restore statehood in Jammu and Kashmir, because your rights, your wealth, everything is being taken away from you,” he said.

“In 1947, we removed kings and formed democratic government, we gave the Constitution, today a king is sitting in J&K, his name is L-G but he is a king. Your money is being taken away, given to outsiders. Our first step would be to restore statehood,” Gandhi added.
