New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called former Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to check on his health and wished him a quick recovery. Azad, who is currently in Kuwait, is recovering after being admitted to a hospital in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party, is part of an all-party delegation of Indian MPs currently visiting Gulf countries. The delegation is led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda. The visit includes meetings with political leaders, government officials, and members of the Indian community in countries like Saudi Arabia and Algeria.

Azad was admitted to a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, halfway through the delegation’s tour. Jay Panda shared the information on social media, stating that Azad is stable, under medical supervision, and undergoing some tests and procedures. He added that Azad’s presence would be missed during the remaining part of the delegation’s visit.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is part of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, was hospitalised in Kuwait after falling ill due to extreme heat. Azad confirmed the news in a social media post on Tuesday, saying he is recovering well and that all his medical test results are normal.

“Blessed to share that despite the extreme heat in Kuwait affecting my health, by God’s grace I’m doing fine and recovering well. All test results are normal. Thank you all for your concern and prayers — it truly means a lot!” Azad wrote on X.

Baijayant Panda said Azad’s contributions in the meetings held in Bahrain and Kuwait were impactful, and his absence would be felt in the upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia and Algeria. “He is stable, under medical supervision, and will be undergoing some tests and procedures,” Panda added.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also expressed concern and wished Azad a speedy recovery, calling him a key member of the high-profile delegation representing India’s position on terrorism abroad.

The all-party delegation, which includes BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, Satnam Singh Sandhu, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former diplomat Harsh Shringla, was formed to counter global misinformation and present India’s firm stance against terrorism.
