New Delhi: Taking a swipe at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi ridiculed his past promise of making “Delhi as beautiful as Paris, London”.
Rahul shared a video on X in which he can be seen walking next to a canal in Delhi. The caption of the video read: “This is Kejriwal’s ‘shining’ Delhi – Delhi like Paris.” “The situation is similar everywhere,” Rahul Gandhi said in the video.

What Kejriwal had promised?
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal had given assurance to transform Delhi into a city as beautiful as other capital cities around the world if the AAP won all seven seats in the capital.
He had said at the time that in Delhi today, one can see dirt and garbage everywhere in Delhi. “Many of you must have travelled abroad. Take the capitals of other countries as examples — Paris, London, Washington, Tokyo, and other developed nations. These cities are so beautiful. Can’t we make Delhi beautiful too? Yes, we can.”
Kejriwal, the CM then, said that “if we (the AAP-led government) can improve Delhi’s hospitals and schools and connect the entire city with CCTV cameras among other achievements, we can make Delhi free of dirt and garbage too. “But the MCDs do not come under the Delhi government. If Delhi gets a full state status, we will make the city so clean that you will be proud of Delhi.”
War of words between Rahul and Kejriwal
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi hit out at Kejriwal at a rally in Delhi’s Seelampur, where he said that Arvind Kejriwal had talked of rooting out corruption. “Has he removed corruption? Just like Modi ji’s propaganda of making false promises, he is following the same strategy…. Pollution, corruption and inflation are on the rise in Delhi,” he alleged. In a counter attack, Kejriwal said,”His fight is to save Congress, my fight is to save the country.”
