New Delhi: After the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian government has permitted Pakistani citizens stranded in India to return home through the Attari border, even as tensions with Pakistan remain high. However, despite India’s clearance, Pakistan has not opened its side of the border since morning.
Pakistani nationals who reached the Attari border early today are still waiting in their vehicles, unable to cross over. Immigration officers at the Indian checkpoint remain on standby, awaiting Pakistan’s cooperation. So far, not a single Pakistani citizen has been able to return.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ order issued on May 1, while all trade and civilian movement across the Attari International Border stands suspended, an exception has been made for Pakistani citizens currently in India. Those holding valid visas and documents are allowed to return to Pakistan until further notice. Once Pakistan opens its gates, the BSF will verify their documents and allow them to cross after immigration formalities.
