‘OPERATION SINDOOR’: India unites in support of India’s military action against Pakistan | Political reactions

New Delhi: Operation Sindoor, India’s midnight military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, has spurred a wave of cross-party support and praise for the Indian Armed Forces. The swift and decisive action, a response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, has galvanised a united front across the political spectrum.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed the nation’s sentiment briefly on X (formerly Twitter), posting a “Bharat Mata Ki Jai!” (Long Live Mother India), a simple yet powerful message of national pride and support for the military.

भारत माता की जय!

— Rajnath Singh (@rajnathsingh) May 6, 2025

This sentiment echoed across party lines. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party leader, voiced the pride of 140 crore Indians in their brave soldiers, emphasising the unwavering support of the nation in the fight against terrorism. He stated that the courage of the Indian Army is the faith of every citizen and that India stands united against terrorism.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who posted a simple but powerful “Jai Hind! Jai Hind Army!” on X, and NCP Working President Supriya Sule, who added, “Jai Hind. We stand united with our armed forces.” Veteran Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also expressed pride in the nation’s action, declaring, “So proud of my country today. Jai Hind!”

So proud of my country today.

Operation Sindoor involved airstrikes targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the operation specifically focused on infrastructure linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organisations, including sites in Muridke, Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli.

The Indian government maintained that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. Pakistan’s retaliatory artillery fire across the Line of Control (LOC), however, resulted in reported civilian casualties. As a precaution, several Indian airports were temporarily closed to civilian air traffic. India also proactively briefed several key international partners, including the US, UK, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, on the details of the operation.
