New Delhi: Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the closure of 32 airports in northern and western part of the country till May 15.
Announced in the early hours of Saturday, the decision come in the wake of military conflict between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people lost their lives and several others were injured. Following the terror attack India launched Operation Sindur in nine locations of Pakistan-based terror groups namely LeT, JeM, and HM.

However, while none of the Pakistani civilian areas or military establishments were hit, Pakistan tried to attack a number of Indian cities with drowns that were successfully destroyed, the latest being on Friday evening. Recent developments have forced Indian authorities to close as many airports in the country till the given date.
“The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities have issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civil flight operations, effective from 9th to 14th May 2025 (which corresponds to 0529 IST on 15th May 2025), due to operational reasons,” the release issued by Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA) wrote.
Among airports that have been closed for the time being include- Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur and Kandla.
“The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also extended the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs) due to operational reasons,” the release added.
