New Delhi: The people of Delhi have rejected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but for the third consecutive time, there has been no change in the number of Congress seats. Despite holding 70 assembly seats, Congress has once again failed to secure any seats in Delhi.

However, Delhi is not the only place where Congress has no representation. Congress also has zero MLAs in at least four other states, including major ones like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

Andhra Pradesh assembly has 175 seats, Congress has zero

In Andhra Pradesh Assembly, which has 175 seats, Congress secured zero seats in the May 2024 elections. Despite contesting with full strength, the party couldn’t win a single seat, with most candidates either finishing third or losing their deposits.

NDA alliance now holds 164 MLAs, and the opposition YSR has 11 MLAs. Interestingly, Congress was in power in Andhra Pradesh until 2014.

Congress is also at zero in the West Bengal Assembly

In West Bengal, Congress also failed to win any seats in the 294-seat Assembly after the May 2021 elections. The party contested alongside the Left Front but couldn’t secure a win. For the first time in Bengal, Congress has been reduced to zero seats. Trinamool Congress leads the state with 224 MLAs, while BJP holds 66 MLAs. Although Congress won the Sagardighi seat in Murshidabad in 2022, the MLA later switched to Trinamool. Since then, Congress has failed to win any by-elections held in Bengal.

32 seats in Sikkim, all with NDA

In Sikkim, with 32 seats, Congress also holds no representation. At one time, the party was strong here, but now it has zero seats. All 32 seats are held by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), which is in alliance with BJP.

Congress’ hands are empty in Nagaland too

In Nagaland, with 60 assembly seats, Congress also couldn’t win any seats in the February 2023 elections. The NDPP has 25 MLAs, BJP has 12, and other smaller parties hold the rest. Interestingly, all parties in Nagaland are part of the government, and there is no opposition.

One seat each in three northeastern states

In the three northeastern states, Congress holds just one seat each in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram. Similarly, the party has two MLAs each in Manipur and Puducherry. Congress was recently in power in Puducherry and has had a significant presence in Manipur as well.
