New Delhi: At least nine people were killed, while 24 others suffered injuries after the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district on Saturday night. The bus, en route from Prayagraj to Nagpur, collided with the parked stone-laden dumper truck around 11pm, approximately 25 kilometers from the district headquarters.
The death toll may rise as local officials are currently on-site, and rescue operations are still underway. According to Maihar superintendent of police Sudhir Agarwal, six of the injured are said to be in serious condition and have been referred to Satna for treatment. He mentioned that the remaining injured are receiving care at hospitals in Maihar and Amarpatan.

According to reports, that there were 45 passengers on board the bus at the time of the incident. The bus, operated by Abha Travels (UP 72 AT 4952), was traveling from Prayagraj to Nagpur via Rewa. It rammed the truck (CG 04 NB 6789) near the Chaurasiya Dhaba.

The impact of the collision was so severe that passengers screamed in terror inside the bus. Six passengers died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries en route to Satna district hospital. The total death toll now stands at nine, which includes the bus conductor. Senior officials arrived at the scene shortly after receiving news of the accident and initiated a rescue operation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the crash was so horrific that rescuers had to use gas cutters to extract people from the mangled bus. Maihar’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vikas Singh, Tehsildar Jitendra Patel, SP Sudhir Kumar Agarwal, and SP Rajiv Pathak are present at the incident site.
