Hajipur: Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, narrowly escaped a serious road accident late on Friday night when a speeding truck hit vehicles in his convoy.
The accident took place near Goraul on NH-22, Hajipur-Muzaffarpur main road. Three security personnel, including the driver, were injured and rushed to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The incident took place while Tejashwi was returning to Patna from a program in Madhepura. Around 10 pm, he stopped for tea at a roadside stall in Goraul. While he was standing near his vehicle, a truck suddenly went out of control and rammed into 2–3 vehicles in his convoy.
“The truck hit the vehicles just five feet away from me,” Tejashwi said. “If it had moved a little further, I too could have been hit.” He described the incident as terrifying and a clear case of negligence.
Following the collision, there was chaos at Sadar Hospital Hajipur as the injured were brought in for emergency treatment. Two of them were later referred to PMCH Patna for better care, according to Vaishali civil surgeon Dr Shyam Nandan Prasad.
Tejashwi urged authorities to take strict action against the truck driver and emphasized the seriousness of road accidents in the country. “Accidents happen every day, and many lives are lost due to carelessness,” he said. “But what happened today was pure negligence, and action must be taken.”
The truck driver, who tried to flee the spot, was quickly caught by police and is now in custody for questioning.
RJD MLA from Mahua, Dr Mukesh Roshan, and several party workers rushed to the hospital to check on the injured personnel. The local administration and police have launched an investigation into the matter.
