Mumbai: Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rains for a few days now. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Thursday. Following the heavy rains in the city,several incidents of trees being uprooted were reported.
Roads blocked due to trees
According to reports, several roads were blocked due to falling trees in Mumbai. One such incident was reported from Mahim Kendall Road. Following the incident, the traffic here remained affected for several hours. Half of the road was blocked due to the huge tree that fell right in the middle.
Some social workers took it upon themselves to clear the traffic, but commuters remained stuck in the 1 kilometre long traffic snarl on the road. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the fire brigade were called and soon the officials arrived. They began cutting the tree to help clear the traffic.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours in Mumbai. They said that continuous rainfall is expected in Mumbai and its surrounding areas on Thursday. Fishermen have been advised to avoid the sea. High tides are expected between 4 pm to 6 pm and hence locals and tourists have also been advised to avoid the seashore.
The department issued a high wave warning for Thane, Mumbai and suburban Mumbai city. High waves in the range of 3.5 to 3.8 metres are expected between 5:30 pm on June 18 to 11:30 pm on June 19, said the weather department. It also advised small vehicles/boats to not venture into the sea and all activities near the shore, including recreational activities are to remain suspended.
