Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced on Saturday a ban on the sale of meat, fish, and other non-vegetarian products within a 13 km radius of Air Force Station Yelahanka from January 23 to February 17, 2025, in connection with the Aero India-2025 event.

“It is intimated that Aero India-2025 show is scheduled to be held at Airforce station Yelahanka from 10.02.2025 to 14.02.2025. On account of this, it is to the notice of general public and proprietors of meat stalls, non-vegetarian hotels/restaurants for closure of all meat/chicken/fish shops and prohibition on serving/sale of non-vegetarian dishes within 13 km radius of Airforce station Yelahanka from 23rd January 2025 to 17th February 2025,” the BBMP said in a statement.

The measure has been implemented as a safety precaution to prevent bird strikes during airplane training sessions. Predatory birds, especially eagles, are attracted to discarded food and meat waste, so authorities are taking steps to keep them away from the airspace to reduce the risk of accidents. “Any violation of this will attract punishment under BBMP Act 2020 and Indian Aircraft rules 1937 rule 91,” reads the BBMP notification.

Aero India 2025

Bengaluru has been the host city for Aero India, Asia’s largest air show, since its debut in 1996. The upcoming Aero India-2025 is set to take place at the Yelahanka Air Force Station from February 10 to 14. The event will showcase the participation of Indian Air Force jets and helicopter aerobatics teams.

The five-day extravaganza will feature a range of activities, including a curtain-raiser, the opening ceremony, the Defence Ministers’ Conclave, the CEOs’ Round-Table, an iDEX start-up event, stunning air displays, a vast exhibition area with the India Pavilion and a trade fair for aerospace companies. The overarching theme of this year’s event is ‘The Runway to a Billion Opportunities,’ officials said.

Aimed at fostering collaborations between Indian and international companies, the event will also explore new pathways in the global value chain to boost the indigenisation process. Various ministers, officials and business delegations are expected to attend and discuss potential areas of cooperation.

That apart, the BBMP has issued a directive to reduce the height of cranes used for construction within a 10-kilometre radius of the Yelahanka Air Force Station. All crane operations will be suspended between February 1 and 14 to ensure safety during the event.
