Maharashtra: Gas leak in chemical company in Palghar leaves 10 sick

Maharashtra: Gas leak in chemical company in Palghar leaves 10 sick

Palghar: A gas leak was reported from a chemical company in Palghar district of Maharashtra on Sunday. The company is located in Boisar Tarapur MIDC area in the district. The leak occurred allegedly during illegal chemical production.

10 workers sick

The leak left 10 workers sick. Reports claimed that the gas was so poisonous that the eyes and nose of the workers started burning. This led them to shout in pain. In an attempt to suppress the matter, the company administrator shifted the workers to a different place.

The incident happened at around 3 am, the chief of the District Disaster Management Cell, Vivekanand Kadam was quoted as saying by India TV. He said that the unit where the accident happened is involved in production of antioxidants.

But the condition of the workers continued to deteriorate and they were finally shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Soon after receiving information about the incident, a team of Boisar Police and the factory inspector reached the spot. The police team has started investigations in the chemical leak.

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety arrangements for workers working in industrial areas. The matter is being thoroughly investigated by the authorities and appropriate action is likely to be taken against the company.

Doctors at the hospital said that all workers are now out of danger. Their treatment however is still going on. A detailed investigation into the matter is being carried out by the concerned authorities.
