New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated his “dear friend” Donald Trump for taking oath as 47th President of the USA. PM Modi in a post on X also said that he was looking forward to working closely with Trump again.

The PM’s post on X read: “Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries, and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead!”

Donald Trump took oath in a star studded ceremony at the Capitol in Washington on Monday. He is returning to White House after four years. While the 78-year-old Trump has vowed to put America “first”, India is hoping to be in good books of the Republican Party leader.

Jaishankar represented India at the ceremony

External affairs minister S Jaishankar represented India at the ceremony calling it “great honour”.

“A great honour to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of @POTUS President Donald J Trump and @VP Vice President JD Vance in Washington DC today,” Jaishankar wrote on X.

If reports are to be believed Trump has asked his advisors about a possible visit to India within 100 days of his inauguration. US considers India an important partner and there are many India friendly members in the Trump cabinet. During his first term Trump shared a good rapport with PM Modi.

Trump to make US envy of every nation

Trump, who defeated Kamala Harris in the November elections, said that he will make USA “envy of every nation”.

“From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer,” he said. “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Trump said in his oath.
