Kerala: Rift in CPI(M) wide open over initiating action against PP Divya

Kannur/Pathanamthitta: Deep fissures within the Left front and the CPI(M) comes openly into fore over the ADM suicide issue with PP Divya, a young women leader and the Kannur district Panchayat president’s role became evident following an ‘insensitive’ comment and the following statements that was made against Naveen Babu, a senior officer who too was a CPI(M) affiliate who according to many was a bureaucrat who had a good track record.

While the DYFI, a prominent youth brigade of the communist party offering full support to PP Divya, the Pathanamthitta CPM leadership have openly lashed out at CPI(M) leader and said that they will go to any extend to pursue legal action against PP Divya.

“We will never support PP Divya and her actions. She should be punished as per the law. This is the opinion of the party. Well, I have not heard of what the DYFI has spoken. One thing is very clear that the district collector Arun is trying to hide something and he is also behind insulting Naveen. His role should be investigated here. Now what is the point writing a letter to the family. The family is the one at loss. We demand a detailed probe into the entire incidents that led to the farewell meeting where she had entered the hall without an invite. We need a detailed probe”, said KP Udayabhanu, CPI(M) Pathanamthitta district secretary to the media today.

Meanwhile, the Kannur CPI(M) leadership is taking a guarded approach in the entire matter where the Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan has said that the party does not support the actions of Divya where she made allegations against Naveen Babu in connection with applying for license for a petrol station.

“We don’t want to question her intentions. She did not say that intentionally. But she should have avoided speaking about the matter in such a platform. There was clear flaws on her part. Meanwhile, we accept the fact that she should have avoided the allegations being made there and instead should have been more vigilant in her approach”, said MV Jayarajan, senior CPI(M) leader.

However, party insiders are clearly divided in their opinion on the matter. While a vast majority of them view that she was at fault and action should be taken against her, a section also believes that she has done nothing wrong.

DYFI state secretary Vaseef defended the actions and statements of PP Divya stating there was nothing wrong in the allegations made by her and reiterated that the DYFI will stand along with her on the issue.

“We will stand behind her and will continue to fight for justice”, he said.

PP Divya is currently missing and is reportedly absconding as per police sources. The police team when reached her house in Kannur could not locate her.

CPM leader P. P. Divya on Friday, October 18, sought anticipatory bail from a lower court in the Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu suicide case.

State Congress president and Kannur Lok Sabha member K. Sudhakaran said the CPI-M and the Left government should ensure that a clean probe is undertaken in the case.

“The party and the government in the past had come to the rescue of Divya in a suicide case of a girl. They should now ensure that a free probe takes place this time,” said Sudhakaran to the media.
