Karwa Chauth moon time: When will the moon rise today in Punjab?

Mumbai: Karwa Chauth holds a special place in the hearts of married women across Punjab, where the festival is observed with deep devotion and enthusiasm. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on Sunday, 20 October 2024, with women fasting from sunrise until moonrise. They abstain from food and water, praying fervently for their husbands’ long lives and well-being.

The day begins early at 6:46 AM, with the consumption of sargi, a pre-dawn meal provided by the mother-in-law. This meal is crucial, as it sustains the women throughout the day as they observe a strict fast. Dressed in their finest traditional attire and adorned with solah shringar, the women engage in the Karwa Chauth puja during the evening, praying to Goddess Parvati for their husbands’ health and longevity.

This moment is highly anticipated, as once the moon is visible, women will perform the Chand Darshan ritual, offering water (arghya) to the moon. Following this sacred act, they will break their fast by drinking water and enjoying a meal, typically shared by their husbands as part of the traditional celebrations.
