The action was carried out under Section 88 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) after they were declared proclaimed offenders in a 2011 case registered under the IMCO Act and other sections related to criminal conspiracy.

In a separate incident, a massive search operation was launched in Kishtwar to locate two missing Village Defence Guards (VDGs). The search began on Thursday evening after an offshoot of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist group, Kashmir Tigers, claimed responsibility for the killing of the two men, Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, who had gone to graze cattle in the Munzla Dhar forest.

The terrorists warned others against joining VDGs, sharing a photo of the two blindfolded men as proof. Security forces, including the J&K Police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), worked cautiously to recover the bodies from the hilly terrain, fearing traps set by the terrorists.
