Srinagar: In the aftermath of the horrific terror attack that claimed 26 lives in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, South Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released its first detailed preliminary report.
According to NIA sources, the attack was orchestrated with the involvement of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistani army. The investigation has traced a sophisticated nexus that extends from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) into the Kashmir Valley.
The report reveals that the terrorists had hidden weapons in Betab Valley, a popular tourist destination and Bollywood shooting spot in Pahalgam, exposing long-term planning behind the attack. The report also mentions that Local Over Ground Workers (OGWs) provided logistical support, including surveillance and shelter.
The NIA has compiled a list of suspected OGWs to dismantle this support network and is preparing targeted “legal and administrative” actions. The preliminary dossier includes the testimonies of nearly 150 witnesses, 3D site recreation, and analysis of ballistic evidence. Empty cartridges collected from the site have been forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), with results awaited.
The report also confirms that the attackers maintained active communication with handlers across the border in PoK throughout the operation, are are still venturing in South Kashmir.
Compiled under the direct supervision of the NIA Director General, this report will now be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
