IndiGo flight engine catches fire mid-air, makes emergency landing at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: An IndiGo flight bound for Bengaluru was forced to return to Kolkata after an aircraft engine failed mid-air, after which a full emergency was declared at the airport. All passengers and crew members were unhurt. The incident was reported on Friday night.

According to ‘The Times of India’, Nailanjan Das, one of the passengers on the flight, heard some unusual sounds shortly after the flight took off, Also, he saw flames coming out from one of the engines of the aircraft, after which the plane returned to Kolkata airport.

Pilot reported engine failure shortly after take-off

As per officials, the aircraft’s pilot reported an engine failure minutes after the take-off after which a full emergency was declared at the airport at around 10:40 pm. The airport authorities then quickly inspected the runway and made it available for the aircraft to land.
