‘India will not be silenced’, says Tharoor before leading all-party delegation to US

New Delhi: In a powerful demonstration of national unity against the scourge of terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is embarking on a crucial diplomatic tour, leading an all-party delegation to five nations. Before his departure, Tharoor asserted that “India will not be silenced by terrorism,” characterising the extensive global outreach programme as “a mission of peace and hope.”

In a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor outlined the delegation’s ambitious itinerary, which includes stops in Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil and the United States. The core objective, he explained, is to articulate India’s unwavering stance and present a united front against the recent “horrendous crisis” of terror attacks that have deeply impacted the nation. “The reason we are going is to speak for the nation, to speak about this horrendous crisis we were subjected to in which our country was attacked by terrorists in the cruellest possible way,” Tharoor can be heard as saying in the video.

“We need to speak up with clarity and conviction for our country, for our response and to give the world the message that we will not be silenced by terrorism and we don’t want the world to look away either,” he emphasized.

“We don’t want indifference to triumph over the truth. It’s a mission of peace. It’s a mission of hope. And it’s a mission that will one day remind the world that India stands for all the values we need to preserve in the world today of peace, of democracy, of freedom, and not of hatred, killing and of terror,” throor concluded his resolute message with a patriotic “Jai Hind.”

The delegation, comprising other MPs from Group 5, was thoroughly briefed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri prior to their departure from Delhi. The briefing focused on the strategic agenda of this global outreach, designed to powerfully convey India’s position on terrorism. As Tharoor noted in another X post featuring a photo of the departing team, the aim is to sensitise international opinion towards India’s resolute and unanimous approach to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, transmitting the country’s unyielding message of zero tolerance.
