New Delhi: India on Wednesday expelled another official working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, second such action within a week. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the official was involved in activities inconsistent with diplomatic norms and was asked to leave the country within 24 hours.
In a strongly worded statement, the MEA said the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission was summoned and issued a formal demarche. “He was asked to strictly ensure that none of the Pakistani diplomats or officials in India misuse their privileges and status in any manner,” the statement added.
This came after another Pakistani official was expelled on May 13 for espionage-related activities. The back-to-back expulsions come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly after India’s strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
